Specific examples of hazardous areas include oil and gas production facilities, refineries, chemical plants, gas processing plants, loading docks, pump rooms, grain storage facilities, flour mills, woodworking plants, and more. Hazardous areas can also be found in certain types of manufacturing facilities, laboratories, and other settings where hazardous materials are present.

When doing an area zoning exercise, particularly in older application areas, we recommend that the team should also carry out a lighting survey and review the existing lighting infrastructure.
